Career Change Dogs

overview

At Paragon, our dogs are the core of our program, and we recognize that working as a service or facility dog is not for every dog. So, we listen when a dog signals that they'd prefer a "career change" to that of a best friend or family pet, which are also incredibly important jobs. On rare occasions, Paragon will have a career change dog, a returned service dog due to the passing of a human partner or other life circumstances, or a retired service dog needing a forever home.

When a dog is available for adoption, Paragon will post the dog on this page along with photos, their story, and instructions on how to apply.

meet cooper

Cooper is a 1.5-year-old yellow lab with a huge heart and an even bigger zest for life! This handsome guy has spent his early days training to be a hearing service dog, and he's mastered house manners along with many cues like sit, down, come, and stay. However, Cooper decided the world is way too exciting to settle into such serious service work!

Consequently, now, he's on the hunt for a loving home that can offer him plenty of LOVE, time, attention, and structure to be his best self. Cooper thrives with regular training and lots of exercise, although he can get a little overexcited on leash, so he’ll need a patient and guiding hand. At over 70 pounds, you might not guess it, but Cooper is a total snuggle bug who will happily curl up in your lap! He's neutered, healthy, and ready for his next big adventure.

Cooper absolutely loves walks, swimming, and boating, so an active lifestyle is a must! Because of his energy and love for exercise, we’re asking that his future home have a fenced yard where he can run and play safely.

Cooper might be the perfect match for you if you’re looking for a joyful, affectionate, loyal, and active companion who will bring endless enthusiasm and cuddles into your life!

Cooper’s the ultimate sidekick for any of life’s escapes! Start by filling out an adoption application or by sending questions to Leah.
