Hearing Dog Team Beth & E.A. Pruitt
If you’ve spent any time around the Paragon facility, you’ve undoubtedly met Pruitt. Named after a longtime friend of the organization, E. A. Pruitt is truly one of a kind. What you may not know is that he responds to an impressive collection of nicknames—Pru, Pru-y, Pru-bear, Winnie the Pru…and the list goes on. The best part? Every name fits.
Pruitt has a big, gentle heart—a soft, sleepy sweetness paired with rock-solid loyalty and just enough mischief to keep everyone on their toes. With his bear-cub looks, you’d almost expect him to pluck salmon out of a stream or sneak honey straight from a honey pot. He’s slobbery, silly, hungry, endlessly lovable…and deeply devoted.
As a hybrid raised and trained dog, partly by community volunteers and partly through Paragon’s PAWS’Abilities inmate handler program, he brings the best of both worlds. He’s the kind of dog who reminds you to breathe, stay present, and enjoy the work. Calm, patient, and deeply intuitive—Pruitt stood out as a dog who thrived on gentle guidance and quiet connection.
Then along came Beth. For years, Beth’s hearing loss forced her into a constant state of hypervigilance. She could never fully relax. When expecting a delivery, she checked her phone multiple times a day because she couldn’t hear the door. The weight of always needing to be one step ahead was exhausting. Eventually, she reached out to Paragon in hopes of finding some relief—and a partner she could trust.
From Day 1, she brought kindness, determination, and a readiness to learn. During Team Training, her growth was unmistakable—each day building on the last. From early, flustered moments to confidently navigating elevators, public outings, and new environments, Beth stepped into every challenge with quiet courage.
Beth and Pruitt trust each other deeply. They learn together in quiet, meaningful ways—the kind that shape true partnership. They are everything we hope for in a team: love, patience, trust, and steady growth.
Pruitt’s calm presence offers Beth both reassurance and newfound freedom, while Beth’s patient leadership gives Pruitt the guidance he thrives on. Their bond radiates mutual respect, gentle courage, and an unspoken understanding.
As they step forward together, one confident stride at a time, it’s clear this duo is ready to navigate the world with heart—and with each other.
